1 Peter 2: 13-17
“Submission to Authority”
May 17, 2026
Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God.
Devotional Thought:
In this passage, we’re encouraged to respect and obey authorities for the Lord’s sake because it is God’s will. By doing good, we can show others what it means to follow Christ and silence those who speak against us. We should live freely, but use our freedom to serve God, showing honor to everyone, loving our Christian family, fearing God, and respecting our leaders.
Prayer Focus:
Heavenly Father, Grant us the strength and wisdom to respect and obey the authorities you have placed over us, knowing that it is your will. Help us to live in a way that reflects your goodness and silences those who speak against us. May we use our freedom to serve you, showing honor to everyone, loving our brothers and sisters in Christ, and respecting our leaders.
